| REGULAR MEETING June 24, 2010 at 7 p.m. Council Chambers 101B Sand Creek Road Brentwood, CA 94513 CALL TO ORDER: Chair Rodrigues called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. ROLL CALL: Present were Chair Ernie Rodrigues, Vice Chair Blythe Lind, and Commissioners Lanny Brown and Alyssa Madden; Eileen Hofstadt was on an excused absence. Staff members present were: Craig Bronzan, Director, Roger Stromgren, Landscape/Facilities Manager; Poldina Scherff, Recreation Manager; Edie Keller, Administrative Supervisor and Linda Stadlbauer, Administrative Assistant II. PRESENTATION(S): David Juarez, Eagle Scout candidate, is present for special thanks from the Commission for a job well done in the installation of the memorial monument at Veterans Park. CITIZEN COMMENTS: NONE CONSENT CALENDAR: Motion to approve items 2-6 of Consent Calendar. Motion to approve item 1 of Consent Calendar with the amendment of May 25, 2010 Minutes to include removal of the Citizen Comments. SCHEDULED MATTERS: 7. ACTION ITEM: Approve the conceptual plans of the redesign of the Portofino parks. (C. Bronzan) Motion to approve item 7of Consent Calendar. 8. DISCUSSION ITEM: Biannual review of the Park and Recreation Commissioner duties. (C. Bronzan) STAFF COMMENTS Poldina Scherff advised the Commission that the artwork at Veterans Park has been installed and was dedicated last week. Surveillance cameras have been installed and are aimed at the artwork to help deter vandalism and theft. The Hawaiian Luau Dinner Dance is Friday at the Senior Center. We are in full swing with our programs at the Brentwood Family Aquatic Center and Sunset Park. Craig Bronzan advised the Commission that the Clubhouse at the Trilogy Vineyards is open. It has a spa, banquet room, swimming pools and a demonstration kitchen. All of these amenities are open to the public. We are also very blessed to have a Finance Department with the help of dedicated City employees that have, once again, been able to project a balanced 2-year budget plan for the City. Edie Keller reminded the Commission that our next meeting will be at Blue Goose Park. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Commissioner Lind reported that the art dedication at Veterans Park went really well. She also complimented Mac Kaiser and his staff at the Aquatic Center for being very welcoming and informative, and the lifeguards for being very attentive. She agrees with Commissioner Brown that the parking at Sunset Park needs to be better managed. Chair Rodrigues informed the Commission that the dedication of the artwork at Veterans Park went really well. Also, that the East Bay Regional Parks District meeting at the Brentwood Senior Activity Center was good, and that he received a service award from them. He wished Eileen Hofstadt and her family best wishes from the Commission. Craig Bronzan commented that the District is able to recognize volunteers and that a good suggestion from the City would be David Juarez for his scout project, the granite memorial block at Veterans Park.
