| REGULAR MEETING March 25, 2010 at 7 p.m. Council Chambers 101B Sand Creek Road Brentwood, CA 94513 CALL TO ORDER: Chair Rodrigues called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. ROLL CALL: Present were Chair Ernie Rodrigues, Vice Chair Blythe Lind, and Commissioners Eileen Hofstadt, Lanny Brown and Alyssa Madden. Staff members present were: Roger Stromgren, Landscape/Facilities Manager; Poldina Scherff, Recreation Manager; Edie Keller, Administrative Supervisor and Linda Stadlbauer, Administrative Assistant II. PRESENTATION(S): None. Chair Rodrigues welcomed Political Science students who were observing from the audience. CITIZEN COMMENTS: None CONSENT CALENDAR: Motion to approve items 1-6 of Consent Calendar. SCHEDULED MATTERS: STAFF COMMENTS Poldina Scherff advised the Commission that March saw all of the Opening Days for Adult Softball, ASA Girls Fastpitch, and PeeWee Baseball. Also, the Summer Activities Guide will come out in May and that most of the program fees will stay the same. Roger Stromgren advised the Commission that City Council has approved the contract for Summerwood Park, and that it should be installed by June 2010. He also informed them that the Parks, Trails and Recreation Master Plan Ad Hoc Committee will be meeting again on March 31 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Copper theft is getting worse; Veterans Park, Creekside Park, Caboose Park and some streetscape wiring was stolen for a loss of around $70K. Currently, our insurance has a $5K deductible per incident. Also, two light poles were stolen from McClarren Park. Other cities are being hit hard too, including San Jose, Chula Vista, San Ramon and Fremont. We have been able to fix the lights at Sunset Park so that night games can go on. Roger informed the Commission that a Task Force comprised of representatives from the Police Department, Public Works and Information Services (IS) Departments has been created to identify ways to deter copper theft. The group has been working on the possibility of increased use of surveillance cameras and the installation of locking lids on more electrical boxes in order to make them one solid unit and thereby more difficult to remove. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Vice Chair Lind advised the Commission that she and her family enjoyed the new play equipment at McClarren Park. Commissioner Madden advised the Commission that her son has had a wonderful time with the Biddy Sports recreation program. Commissioner Rodrigues advised the Commission that he attended his first Brentwood Senior Citizens Club Board meeting. He commented that Olivia Alvarez facilitates the diverse group well, and that Poldina Scherff will attend as staff while Olivia is on maternity leave. He commended the staff for all their hard work.
