REGULAR MEETING CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Hofstadt called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. ROLL CALL: Present were Chair Eileen Hofstadt, Vice Chair Ernie Rodrigues and Commissioner Blythe Lind, Commissioners Lanny Brown and Sandra Myers were excused. Staff members present were Roger Stromgren, Landscape/Facilities Manager, Edie Keller, Administrative Secretary, and Linda Stadlbauer, Administrative Assistant II. PRESENTATION(S): NONE CITIZEN COMMENTS: NONE CONSENT CALENDAR: Motion to approve items 1-3 of Consent calendar. SCHEDULED MATTERS: NONE STAFF COMMENTS Edie Keller updated the Commission on the park sub-committee list. She reminded them that there was a neighborhood meeting last year at McClarren park, where Abey/Arnold and Associates gave a presentation to the local residents and asked what they would like to see at their park. They then used that input to design a plan. The plans were put out to bid on June 17th, the last day to bid will be on July 16, 2009. The bids will be opened on July 16th, a company will be chosen, and the project will get underway. One of the key suggestions that will be implemented was to move the play structure towards the front of the park for security reasons. Roger Stromgren advised the Commission that it will take approximately 10-12 weeks for the manufacturer to complete the order. We expect that installation will be complete by the end of October 2009. General discussion included various potential projects throughout the City, our current maintenance companies that have just come on board, and the tree maintenance agreement with West Coast Aborists. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Commissioner Lind reported that the Orchard Park Shade Dedication went well. The water features in Rainbows End are not working again. She also inquired as to why Sunset Park’s picnic areas and playground are not available to the general public. Edie Keller responded that it is actually an Athletic Complex, and therefore, currently, it stays locked unless there are organized games or scheduled activities. Commissioner Lind suggested that we could put up signage that would inform the public of that. Commissioner Lind inquired if there is a different charge for evening entry to the Aquatic Center. Edie Keller responded that it is the same price no matter what time you enter the facility. The current price is at $4.00. Commissioner Rodrigues complimented both the Moms Club and the City for a great job with the Orchard Park Shade Dedication. He reported that he saw a couple of minor tears in the shade material, to which Roger Stromgren informed the Commission that our department is aware of this, and the Parks Division is looking into repairing them.
