City of Brentwood

P R O C L A M A T I O N

WHEREAS, teachers are daily designing the future through the children they educate; and

WHEREAS, they continue to inspire and motivate those students with the promise of tomorrow and develop their sense of curiosity and quest for knowledge; and

WHEREAS, their efforts on behalf of our children and our country are applauded by our community; and

WHEREAS, legislation was passed nearly twenty years ago to observe on the second Wednesday of May “The Day of the Teacher,” which originated in Mexico and was brought to the United States by the Association of Mexican-American Educators, Inc.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I Michael A. McPoland Sr., Mayor of the City of Brentwood does hereby proclaim May 8th, 2002 be celebrated as “The Day of the Teacher”.
