Park/Recreation Leader

Part-time, Temporary

The Position
Recreation:
Under supervision of the Pool Manager, Assistant Manager or Senior Lifeguard, ensures the safety of facility patrons by preventing accidents and responding to emergencies. Performs other related duties as required. Maintains order of the aquatic facility and its programs. Provides customer service and enforces parks and recreation rules and regulations. A sample of duties may include but not be limited to: performing chemical testing, completing all logs and reports, ensuring the safety of all patrons of the aquatic facility. Perform other duties as deemed necessary.

Parks:
Must be: 18 years of age or older; familiar with general hand and power tools and their use; capable of following written and oral instructions; able to function in working in environmental conditions associated with this job. Must be able to perform heavy manual labor. Works independently to ensure proper field set-up and scheduling for organized use of athletic facilities, gym sites, aquatics complex and other facilities that may be reserved throughout the City of Brentwood. Coordinates recreation policies through day-to-day meetings with user groups and City staff. Position requires close cooperation with Recreation staff to coordinate hours of facility operation and set-up procedures. Under general supervision, maintains and prepares ball fields, buildings, and other landscaped facilities for general public use. Typical duties include but are not limited to: picking up litter, emptying garbage cans, cleaning and restocking restrooms and locker rooms. Raking, sweeping, digging, etc. Opening gates and unlocking doors at facilities. Checking alarm systems and inspecting and closing facilities after each use. Removing graffiti from all surfaces and painting buildings and facilities as needed. Checking and adjusting drinking fountains and other plumbing fixtures. Performing, and directing staff with, ball field, park maintenance and renovation needs. Performing new field layouts and striping for league sports and assists in all in-field grooming and lining operations. Providing on site coordination of daily field use for different teams and leagues. Adjusts use schedules based on unforeseen circumstances – calls and reschedules rain-outs. Checks field lighting and irrigation schedules to comply with use schedules. Assists in the development of field renovation schedules and orders material associated with needed maintenance. Checking operation of scoreboards and scoring computers and facilitates repairs in case of malfunctions. Setting up park facilities for special events. Inspecting playground equipment and make needed repairs as necessary. Must be able to keep written documentation of repairs. Inspecting and performing routine repairs/maintenance to concession equipment, fences, gates, backstops, dugouts, benches, bases, locks and facilities in general and reports such needs. Makes sure all sites are safe for public use. Supervising/training volunteer groups and lesser classifications.

MUST BE WILLING TO WORK WEEKENDS, EVENING HOURS, HOLIDAYS , AND FULFILL THEIR JOB DUTIES THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE SEASON.

Standards
Recreation: Minimum of one (1) year community recreation experience as a Recreation Assistant or equivalent related experience, a valid California driver’s license, and be able to obtain certification in community CPR and standard first aid within 90 days of being hired. Computer experience is highly desirable. Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight.

Parks: Minimum of three (3) years of increasingly responsible work in facility maintenance/management. Must have necessary skills to perform work, and use associated tools and equipment at City facilities. Must be familiar with athletic field layout, maintenance and renovation techniques, proper use and installation of all equipment associated with related use. Able to evaluate field conditions for playability and safety. Able to help set-up guidelines and procedures for league use. Able to establish priorities and identify field development standards. Flexible and able to deal with the public in a positive manner. Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight.

Must possess a valid California Driver’s License with a good driving record.

Salary
$11.94 - 14.51 per hour, no benefits
