The Brentwood Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) was developed in 1997 and provides an important role toward reducing fatal and injury traffic collisions in Brentwood. The TSU unit is currently comprised of three officers and a Sergeant. The TSU’s mission is to make Brentwood’s roadways safer for all vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians. The Officers in the TSU are responsible for investigating traffic collisions, issuing traffic citations and responding to traffic complaints.
The TSU is also involved in traffic education programs, commercial vehicle enforcement and participate in special enforcement campaigns. Some of the campaigns include: Click It or Ticket, Avoid the 25 (DUI enforcement) and VSET (Stolen Vehicle Task Force).
The Traffic Officers are certified through the State to ride police motorcycles to enforce traffic laws. The Traffic Safety Officers currently ride Harley Davidson motorcycles and they also use a Ford F-350 Pick up for Commercial Vehicle Enforcement. The TSU provides child safety seat inspections and installation.
The Police Department’s goal is to provide a highly visible unit that will help reduce traffic violations and improve roadway safety. The Traffic Safety Unit encourages Brentwood citizens to call the Police Department with any traffic concerns or use the "Tell a Cop" program for non-emergencies at 809-7826.
