FOG SEASON SAFETY AND A LITTLE LOVE FOR LOCAL
January has brought the tule fog. While we’re definitely missing the sun most days, it’s also a good reminder to slow down and stay alert, especially during the morning commute when children are walking or biking to school. Please give yourself a little extra time, use low-beam headlights, and watch carefully at crosswalks and around school zones.
As we look ahead to 2026, we also want to share a quick note of support for our local restaurants and small businesses. Historically, January is one of the slowest months of the year, and choosing to shop and dine locally can make a real difference. Whether it’s grabbing coffee, picking up lunch, booking an appointment, or trying a new spot you’ve been meaning to visit, your support helps keep our small business community strong.
Thank you for looking out for one another and for supporting the local businesses that help make Brentwood uniquely Brentwood.

To slow the impacts of climate change, State law Senate Bill (SB) 1383, also known as the Short-Lived Climate Pollutants Act, requires statewide participation in organics diversion and recycling to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from organic material disposal in landfills.
As a result of SB 1383, the City of Brentwood will provide three-container solid waste service to all residents and businesses. Participation is required, and customers must separate organic materials (yard waste, food waste, and soiled paper) and place them into the green cart.
The green cart is no longer just for yard waste. It is now for all organic waste, including:

BIKE FRIENDLY COMMUNITY DESIGNATION: CITY OF BRENTWOOD RECLAIMS BRONZE STATUS
The City of Brentwood has regained its Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community designation from the League of American Bicyclists, announced in the program’s latest award round on January 29, 2026, recognizing the City’s continued commitment to improving bicycling conditions for residents, commuters, and visitors.
The Bicycle Friendly America program evaluates communities nationwide based on their efforts in five key areas: Engineering, Education, Encouragement, Enforcement, and Equity.
Reclaiming Bronze status highlights Brentwood’s progress in supporting safe and accessible bicycling through thoughtful planning, infrastructure investments, and community engagement. The designation places Brentwood among a growing network of cities nationwide that are working to make bicycling a practical, healthy, and sustainable transportation option.
The Bicycle Friendly Community award is valid for four years and provides valuable feedback to help cities continue advancing bicycle safety and mobility. For more information about Bicycle Friendly America, visit the League of American Bicyclists website at bikeleague.org.

Dense fog is continuing in our area and visibility may be reduced on local roads, especially during the morning commute. We’re asking everyone to take a few extra minutes and use added caution.
Drivers:
-
Slow down and increase your following distance.
-
Obey all traffic signs and signals, and make a complete stop at stop signs.
-
Watch carefully for kids walking and riding bikes to school, especially near intersections and crosswalks.
Pedestrians and Cyclists:
Please allow extra travel time and keep safety first.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT OFFICER
Officer Lindzie Laughridge has spent more than a decade serving the Brentwood community, starting as a Community Service Officer before becoming a sworn officer, building relationships one contact at a time. In 2021, she became our agency’s first Community Engagement Officer, creating a direct connection between residents and the Brentwood Police Department, ensuring people feel seen, heard, and connected.
Her work has centered on making the department approachable, visible, and accessible. She organized and supported a wide range of programs, including town halls, Neighborhood Watch meetings, the Citizens Academy, National Night Out, and youth-focused events such as bicycle rodeos and a Halloween trick-or-treat drive-thru, along with many other community activities.
In addition to her Community Engagement Officer role, she served as a Public Information Officer and managed the department’s social media platforms, to keep residents informed about police department activity, community programs and events.
Over the past three years, she has hosted and participated in more than 150 community events, strengthening partnerships across the City.
As she transitions out of the Community Engagement Officer role, she is returning to patrol, bringing that same community-focused approach back to the field and continuing to serve residents directly.
