JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION

 

The City of Brentwood’s Juneteenth Celebration was held on Friday, June 19, at City Park and attracted approximately 3,100 attendees. The event featured Grammy-nominated gospel artist Kim Burrell as the headlining performer, along with a variety of local performers, community and educational booths, food vendors, craft vendors, family activities, the Downtown Brentwood Freedom Walk, and an American Red Cross Blood Drive. All available appointments for the blood drive were filled, reflecting strong community participation in this important service opportunity. Overall, the event was well attended throughout the evening and successfully provided an opportunity for the community to come together to commemorate Juneteenth through education, entertainment, and community engagement. If you are a residential landlord in the City of Brentwood, please note that a Business Tax Certificate, also known as a Business License, is required for all rental properties under Brentwood Municipal Code Chapter §5.04.

 

This requirement applies to any property used as a rental, whether it is currently occupied or vacant, as long as the property is not your primary residence.

ENGINEERING

 

 

As part of the City of Brentwood’s 2026 Pavement Management Program, pavement maintenance work will take place at multiple locations throughout the city. Work will include:

• Partial road closures with at least one lane of traffic open in all directions

• Full road closures with detour routes and signage to guide drivers safely through the area

• Overnight lane restrictions

   

Drivers are encouraged to slow down, use caution, and follow all posted construction and traffic control signs near work zones.

 

We thank residents and visitors for their patience as we complete these necessary improvements. Your cooperation helps us keep Brentwood moving safely and smoothly.

The City is updating speed limits along several roadways based on recent Engineering & Traffic Surveys (E&TS) conducted in accordance with State requirements.  Updated speed limit signage will be installed in the coming weeks along portions of Brentwood Boulevard, Lone Tree Way, O’Hara Avenue, Sand Creek Road, and Walnut Boulevard.  Motorists are advised to watch for the new reduced speed limits and drive safely through these corridors.

POLICE DEPARTMENT

 

 

 

 

 

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign, typically held on the first Tuesday in August, that promotes positive police-community relationships and neighborhood camaraderie.

This year’s National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, August 4. If your neighborhood is planning to host a gathering and would like members of the Brentwood Police Department to stop by, please register at https://brentwood.info/NNO.

Participants of the Citizen’s Academy recently completed the nine-week program and were presented with certificates of completion, along with Brentwood Police Department challenge coins.

 

Throughout the program, participants met with members of the department and learned about a variety of topics, including Patrol Operations, Investigations, Critical Incident Training, and the role of the District Attorney’s Office.

 

We laughed, we learned, and most importantly, we built lasting friendships and partnerships with members of our community.

PARKS AND RECREATION

 

 

 

 

 

On Thursday, June 4, 2026, the Arts Commission hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the 2026 PADA Utility Box Mural Project. City staff welcomed approximately 25 PADA students and their families, along with the PADA Coordinator and Instructor, to recognize the students' artistic contributions to the community.

City and PADA staff presented each student with a Certificate of Recognition on behalf of the City of Brentwood in acknowledgment of their participation and achievement.

 

 

And for the first time ever, these utility box murals can be experienced in a whole new way.An augmented reality experience has been created for all six utility box artworks, allowing you to view each box in your own space. You can walk around it, see the details from every angle, and experience the artwork up close from wherever you are.

PUBLIC WORKS

The City of Brentwood has completed its update to the 2025 Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP) and the Water Shortage Contingency Plan. The documents are available for review at https://brentwood.info/2025-UWMP

 

 

The City of Brentwood 2025 Annual Water Quality Report is now available.  The City is proud to produce high quality water that continues to meet every federal and state standard for safe drinking water.

The City of Brentwood Public Works Department is planning a transition to weekly organic waste pickups, giving residents enhanced service with no rate increase.

 

The City Council approved staff’s recommendation to move forward with the enhanced service. The transition will is made possible through savings from the cancellation of other projects, along with the strong financial health of the Solid Waste Enterprise Fund and available reserves.

 

The approved plan represents an investment of approximately $4.5 million, with $1.7 million in ongoing annual costs, and includes added staffing, maintenance, and the purchase of five new garbage trucks.

 

Implementation is expected to take approximately 12 to 18 months, largely due to the time required to procure new garbage trucks. Ongoing truck chassis shortages continue to affect availability and may impact delivery timelines.
