OBTAINING A SIDEWALK VENDING PERMIT

Before applying for City of Brentwood Sidewalk Vending Permit, gather the following documents and have in pdf format.  Click here for a printable checklist of items required.

What documents are required?

  • Photo Copy of Government Issued Identification (State of California Driver’s License or identification card, passport or social security card).
  • Photograph of applicant, sized 2”x2” taken within last 4 months.
  • Names and Contact Information for all persons that will be employed by sidewalk vendor
  • Copy of valid City of Brentwood Business Tax Certificate. Click here to apply if you do not have a current City of Brentwood Business Tax Certificate.
  • Copy of California Department of Tax and Fee Administration Sellers Permit. Click here to apply for a California Sellers Permit.
  • Copy of $1 million Liability insurance.  Click here for a sample certificate of Liability Insurance.
  • Photo of the vending cart with any signs that will be affixed to the cart.
  • For stationary vending in nonresidential area, include an 8” x 11” photo or sketch of proposed location.

  • If selling food:

  • Copy of Valid Contra Costa County Health Department Permit for food related vending unless food is pre-packaged or non-refrigerated and food operation display area is 25 square foot or less or if selling produce is whole and uncooked.
  • Copy of valid food handler course certificate(s). Click here to complete required course.

If you are selling goods or services from a fixed location, such as a cart, stand, or other equipment that is “not” mobile once it is set up.

Instructions for setting up your user account and submitting applications electronically can be found here:  eTRAKiT Setup and Use Instructions.  Please follow the instructions found on page 10 for attachments, as attachments not submitted properly will be rejected.

Once all the documents are gathered, start the application process for City of Brentwood Sidewalk Vending Permit.  Click here to electronically apply for a Sidewalk Vending Permit and set up a user account. 

There is a nonrefundable application fee of $25.00 to be paid upon submittal of application.  Once application is approved, a permit fee of $137.11 will be paid prior to issuance.  

We recommend using a desk or lap top computer rather than a mobile device and allow yourself time to complete the application.
