Garbage-RecyclingThe City of Brentwood has been operating its own Solid Waste Division since 1994. Its collection program has been a leader in the County's recycling efforts with its innovative, user-friendly containerized recycling programs. Brentwood was one of the first cities in the County and the state to implement city-wide yard waste collection; and its single-stream recycling collection is now the direction that the industry is moving towards.

Perfect Set Out for Garbage Collection

Our Solid Waste team is committed to providing timely service for your carts each week. We’re here to serve you, but obstacles during service can make it challenging and may result in a missed service. Here are a few simple tips to help us avoid this.

    • Time: To prevent a “missed” service, please set your carts curbside the night before your collection day or by 5 a.m. that morning.
    • Orientation: Lid opening should face the street and cart wheels should be against the curb.
    • Overload: Please don’t overload your carts. Overloaded carts may make a mess if serviced. Lids must be closed to prevent any spillage and contents must fall freely from the cart during service.
    • Clearance:
      • On collection days, please utilize off-street parking. Use the driveway or garage for vehicle parking whenever possible.
      • Carts should be at least 6 feet away from vehicles or objects.
      • Avoid placing carts near mailboxes, light posts, basketball hoops, or other obstacles.
      • Trees along the curb should be trimmed to at least 15 feet high.
      • Basketball hoops should be pulled back away from the street and onto your property.
    • Spacing: Carts should be placed 3 feet apart. This gives the truck’s automated arm enough space to grab and lift each bin safely without interference.
    • Safety: Although our vehicles are equipped with cameras and other visibility aids, safety is our top priority. Please keep at least 15 feet away from our collection vehicles and never approach the trucks while it’s in motion.
