What Is Hazardous Waste and Why Safe Disposal Matters
Hazardous waste includes everyday products that can be dangerous to people, pets, and the environment if they are not handled properly. Items such as old paint, motor oil, pesticides, household cleaners, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, and electronic waste all fall into this category.
When these materials are thrown into the garbage or poured down the drain, they can leak harmful chemicals into our soil, water, creeks, and air. This not only threatens the health of our community but also places City staff at risk when fires, spills, or chemical reactions occur.
By disposing of hazardous waste through approved collection facilities or events, you help:
- Protect our environment: Prevent dangerous chemicals from polluting our water, creeks, and soil.
- Keep our community safe: Reducing the risk of accidental fires, explosions, or exposure to dangerous substances.
- Support recycling and recovery: Many items, like batteries and electronics, contain valuable materials that can be reused once safely collected.
Safe disposal is a simple step that makes a big difference. Please take advantage of Delta Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility and hazardous waste drop-off events. Together, we can keep Brentwood clean, safe, and sustainable.
