The City of Brentwood maintains a routine street sweeping program as part of its commitment to environmental stewardship and compliance with the federal Clean Water Act. Street sweeping plays a vital role in protecting waterways by removing debris, trash, and pollutants before they enter the City’s storm drain system and flow into local waterways and ultimately the Delta. In addition to environmental benefits, street sweeping enhances the overall cleanliness and safety of our streets, contributing to a cleaner, more attractive community for all.

Help Keep Brentwood Streets Clean

To ensure effective street sweeping, we ask residents to:

  • Move vehicles off the street on your scheduled sweeping day. By moving your vehicle, you help the street sweeper clean more thoroughly and safely.
  • Keep obstacles like trash cans and portable basketball hoops off the curb

A clear path allows our sweepers to do a thorough job, leaving your street looking great and helping prevent debris from entering the storm drain system.

Trim Trees and Shrubs to Support Safe Street Sweeping

Overgrown trees and vegetation can block equipment and pose safety hazards.

Please ensure:

  • Street trees have at least 15 feet of clearance above the street and at least 10 feet of clearance above the sidewalk for safe pedestrian use

Leaf Fall Season

Fall leaves may be beautiful but when left on the street, they can clog storm drains and pollute our waterways. To help minimize the impact, the City of Brentwood takes extra steps during the leaf fall season to keep streets and storm drains clear.

Please remember:

  • Street sweepers are not designed to pick up large piles of leaves
  • Leaves left in piles can clog the equipment and delay service for your neighborhood
  • To ensure effective street sweeping, bag your leaves or place them in your green carts.
  • Free Leaf Bags for Residents
    • From October through January, Brentwood residents can pick up FREE leaf bags to help manage leaf debris. Homeowners are responsible for cleaning up leaves on their property and along the curb in front of their home. Learn more about this program at FREE Leaf Bag Program
